Estimating the Cost Functions of Sheep Production in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract
There is a tradition of and experience in raising sheep in the kingdom of Saudi Arabian farms. The typical farmers strategies are usually buying small animals to keep them until they grow up and sell them. Farmers usually makes profit by these strategies. the total number of sheep in the kingdom increased within the last years till it became in year 2020 about 21.7 million heads.
The overall objective of this study is to analyze and estimate the cost functions of Sheep farmers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The paper focuses on carrying out statistical estimate of the cost functions of date production by using different econometric models. To achieve the study objectives, a sample of 85 sheep farms were selected randomly within the principle Amarahat in the kingdom. The results of this study show the optimal estimated cost functions. Furthermore, supply function of sheep breeding was derived.

Abstract [العربیة]
من أهم الحيوانات التي يتم تربيتها في المملكة العربية السعودية هي الأغنام بكافة أنواعها. حيث يقوم بعض المواطنين السعوديين بشراء الأغنام صغيرة السن لتربيتها وتسمينها بهدف الاستثمار وتحقيق الربح. وخلال السنوات الماضية تطورت تجارة الأغنام في السعودية بشكل كبير، وبلغ عدد الأغنام بالمملكة لعام 2020 م نحو 21.7 مليون رأس تهدف الدراسة تقدير دوال التكاليف الإنتاجية لمربي الأغنام بالمملكة العربية السعودية ومن ثم استخدام تلك الدوال في تقدير دالة العرض السعرية للأغنام. وقد جمعت بيانات هذه الدراسة من عينة عشوائية من مربي الأغنام في المملكة العربية السعودية، وبلغ عددها 85 مزرعة تربية أغنام. حيث أستخدم أسلوب التحليل الخطى ذو المعادلة الواحدة لتوصل إلى دوال التكاليف الإنتاجية لمربي الأغنام. وقد توصل البحث إلى أن النموذج الاقتصادي القياسي الانحنائي من الدرجة الثالثة يتوافق وبشكل كبير مع كل من المنطق الإحصائي والمنطق الاقتصادي. كما أمكن تقدير دالة عرض الأغنام بالمملكة وذلك لمعرفة استجابة مربي الأغنام بالمملكة للتغير بسعر الرأس من الأغنام الحية.
